Who we are
We are the UK’s leading charity dedicated to conquering stroke.
Stroke strikes every three and a half minutes in the UK. It strikes in an instant but its effects last a lifetime.
Over the past 20 years, we’ve been working hard to change the world for people affected by stroke.
The number of deaths from stroke has halved in the last 20 years. More people than ever are benefitting from cutting-edge treatments and making full recoveries. And more people now understand the need to seek emergency treatment for stroke.
Our support services have helped hundreds of thousands of people get through one of the most frightening experiences of their lives and build a life after stroke.
But there’s still more to do. Stroke is the second biggest killer in the world, and the fourth biggest killer in the UK. There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK today living with the impact of stroke; over one third of stroke survivors rely on someone to help them with daily living.
These figures remain shocking.
Stroke is one of the greatest health challenges of our time but doesn’t get the attention or funding it deserves – especially compared to cancer and heart disease.
We know we need to change this, but we can’t do it on our own. We need to work with people who share our commitment to changing the world for people affected by stroke – with stroke survivors and their families and carers; with health and social care professionals; with scientists and researchers; and with our supporters – so that we can ensure stroke gets the attention it deserves.
We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and to find better treatments.
Together we can conquer stroke.
